Male Celebs You Didn’t Know Had Plastic Surgery

1. Robert Pattinson

From wizardry, magic potions and spells to blood-hungry vampires, flash forward from the 1980s to the 2000s when vampires were all the rage thanks to the Twilight saga starring London’s own Robert Pattinson. Hanging up his cloak after playing Cedric Diggory in the 2005 hit Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Pattinson was at the forefront of the pop culture movement when he starred as Edward Cullen in Twilight and became one of the sexiest and most powerful celebrities in the world. Unlike Pete burns (in so many ways), Pattinson has never admitted or spoken publicly about plastic surgery, but that hasn’t stopped the media from claiming that the 30-year-old star has already gone under the knife. According to reports, Pattinson supposedly had a rhinoplasty a few years ago to correct his nose’s wide bridge and narrower tip. With the reverse looking to be true today with a narrower bridge, Pattinson’s under the radar rhinoplasty is nothing new in Hollywood and is luckily the only secret procedure that the vampire turned Hollywood heartthrob has had.

2. Robert Downey, Jr.

From zero to hero and back again, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing Iron Man than the talented and handsome Robert Downey, Jr. Making his acting debut at only five years old in 1970, Downey was associated with the Brat Pack thanks to roles in films like Weird Science and Less Than Zero before giving an award-winning performance in Chaplin that truly set him apart. Despite a highly publicized battle with drug addiction, the now sober Downey has happily returned to the silver screen in a Marvel Comics role that seems to be written especially for him.

With his drug and alcohol addiction taking a toll on both his career and physical health, Downey’s sobriety did wonders for his physical appearance although he most likely had a little extra help. Despite never openly admitting that he’s had any plastic surgery, many agree that Downey most likely had work done around the eyes as well as Botox injections to tighten sagging skin and signs of aging. Others even argue that he had a cheek augmentation, which just might explain why Downey still looks like a sexy superhero at 51 years old!

3. Johnny Depp

Known for his larger-than-life roles after rising to fame as a teen idol in the 1980s on the hit television series 21 Jump Street, Depp has proven his talents across all genres of films with hits like Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Highly awarded and praised for his exceptional portrayals of people like Joseph D. Pistone, John Dillinger and J. M. Barrie, Depp is one of the highest paid actors in the industry with $75 million in earnings not to mention his recent induction as a living Disney Legend.

Now only 52 years old and working harder than ever before, Depp looks just as young–if not younger–than many actors his age. Though unconfirmed by the actor himself, Depp’s ventures under the knife have been fairly subtle as many physicians speculate that he has had a minor cheek lift but primarily sticks to Botox injections and fillers so as not to draw any unwanted attention to his looks. Of course, comparing photos from his acting debut in the 1980s to his latest red carpet walk and we can’t help but wonder if he might have had a rhinoplasty as well.

4. Ryan Reynolds

Winning the hearts of audiences as the ditzy pretty boy in the ABC sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Canada’s Ryan Reynolds has come a long way to become one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. Making a name for himself with films like National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, The Amityville Horror and The Proposal, Reynolds has also become one of Marvel Comics favorite leading men. After starring in Marvel hits like Blade: Trinity and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds proved to be the perfect choice for the leading role in the 2016 blockbuster Deadpool.

Making his acting debut at 15 years old, Reynolds always hoped he would outgrow his baby face and, while it has definitely changed over the years, many experts believe that the change is far from natural. With rumors running wild that Reynolds turned to plastic surgery for help, many say that the 39-year-old star uses Botox injections to ensure his boyish good looks are perfect. Others claim that Reynolds has even had a chin enhancement where surgeons shaved down the bone of his chin to give him a more definitive jawline. Whatever the case, there’s no denying that he’s one of the hottest men in Hollywood today!

5. Ryan Gosling

From the Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Club to becoming one of Hollywood’s sexiest men alive, Ryan Gosling is yet another Canadian heartthrob who has come a long way from his early days on family shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps. With his early success in independent films like Murder by Numbers and The Slaughter Rule, Gosling became a household name after his leading role in the 2004 blockbuster The Notebook. Since then, he’s starred in a variety of movies such as Lars and the Real Girl and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Much like Sting, Gosling’s physical transformation has been subtle since it happened decades ago after he made his acting debut in the mid-1990s. Planning on a career in the spotlight and landing roles in television series like Breaker High and Young Hercules, many believe that Gosling secretly underwent a rhinoplasty to widen the overly thin bridge of his nose. Of course, by the time The Notebook hit the box office, the world had already fallen in love with Gosling’s boyish good looks and never knew or questioned the subtle difference!

6. Brad Pitt

Often considered the world’s most attractive man as well as one of the most influential people in film today, Brad Pitt first gained fame in the early 1990s as a cowboy hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise. Since then, the A-list megastar has earned dozens of awards for his exceptional performances in films like Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Se7en, to name a few. Add in high profile marriages to Jennifer Aniston (2000-2005) and Angelina Jolie (2014-present), and it’s no surprise why he’s considered one of Hollywood’s favorite (and luckiest) leading men.

No stranger to making magazine covers for his sex appeal and rustic good looks, many people wonder if Pitt has ever gone under the knife. While most look in all the wrong places as they study his face for any signs of plastic surgery, the 52-year-old has actually had work done but it’s not in a place where you’d expect. Early in his career, Pitt was self-conscious about his ears and thought they stuck out further than they should. Looking to boost his confidence, Pitt had his ears tacked in what is undoubtedly one of the most minor and subtle surgeries on our list!

6. Christian Bale

Finding incredible success in just about every role he’s had over the past 34 years, England native Christian Bale first caught the world’s eye when Steven Spielberg cast him in the leading role in his 1987 film Empire of the Sun. From there, Bale gained critical acclaim for his performance in American Psycho and has since earned quite the reputation for his work as Bruce Wayne in the Batman series as well as in hits such as American Hustle, The Fighter and The Big Short.

Known for taking his roles and characters incredibly seriously, Bale has transformed himself time and time again throughout his career for the sake of his performances, but what has he done to transform his own look? Raised in England where people have notoriously poor hygiene and teeth, Bale was desperate to overcome the stereotype and had his teeth replaced with implants once he moved to the United States in the early 1990s. Admitting that he wanted to look “more American,” the surgery was a great move to boost his career in the spotlight!

7. Tom Cruise

Whether you love him or hate him (or just think he’s plain crazy), it’s undeniable that Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest stars in Hollywood for the past 20 years. Making his acting debut in the 1981 film Endless Love, Cruise landed his first leading role in Risky Business in 1983 and hasn’t looked back since. Having starred in hit films like Top Gun, Mission: Impossible, Rain Man and Minority Report, Cruise is perhaps best known today for his work outside the box office as a result of his outspoken advocacy for the Church of Scientology.

During his early career, rumors ran wild when Cruise admitted that he had a rhinoplasty to make minor changes to his nose. Though he said that he would most likely never have anything else done, Cruise recently made headlines when the 53-year-old announced an even more dramatic transformation. At the 2016 BAFTA Awards, the world was shocked when Cruise took the red carpet looking entirely different with his forehead, cheeks and chin having obviously undergone extensive work. While many said that Cruise looked like he had been stung by thousands of bees, we hope it was just bad Botox injections that left Cruise looking crazier than normal.

Most Commonly Requested Plastic Surgery For Men

1. Blepharoplasty: Eyelid Rejuvenation

Just as women often show signs of aging around the eyes, so too do men. The phrase "the eyes are the window to the soul" may well be a true, but I would also add the statement that "the eyelids are the window treatments through which you see the soul." Loose hanging furrowed skin, lateral brows that hang over the upper eyelids, and bulging fat pads below the eyelids with accentuated tear troughs put forth the image of fatigue and loss of vitality. This often results in friends and colleges asking if you are tired or if you are getting enough sleep. Fortunately, surgery to restore the upper eyelids to a crisp appearance with correction of any eyelid droop can be a game changer. The lower lids can be rejuvenated by removing excess fat and repositioning this tissue over the cheek to eliminate the tear trough. Combined with skin and muscle tightening, this procedure provides a fresh and vibrant appearance. This can be important not only in social situations, but also in how a person is viewed in the workplace.

2. Neck Lifts
Do you look in the mirror and say to yourself, "I hate this turkey neck"? Is it getting more difficult to buy dress shirts that are comfortable with ties? Do you look heavier in the face despite not gaining weight? If the answer to all these questions is yes, a consultation for a neck lift may well be a beneficial idea that is not just for vanity. Ideally, a man should have a strong jaw line and a crisp chin-neck junction. Having hanging skin with or without fat excess that obscures the jaw line certainly can put forth the image of premature aging of the individual beyond his chronologic age. A neck lift can be a valuable tool to restore your appearance and convey youth and energy. The surgery is very predictable in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon and is an outpatient procedure with very little pain. Most people can be comfortable in social situation in two weeks.

3. Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Proportionality is everything. If you are unhappy with the shape of your nose or how it blends with the rest of your face, then request a plastic surgeon to perform a facial analysis of you. If the nose seems big, maybe the lower face is out of place, such as a small lower jaw or chin. Often times, I will perform a chin augmentation with a rhinoplasty to provide a harmonious facial appearance. Nose surgery requires finesse and a keen understanding of the anatomy of the many sub-units of the nose. The key is to provide shape without feminizing the male nose. This is also a rather easy surgery to recover from and the patient can return to work within a week usually.

4. Chin Augmentation
As mentioned above, the facial sub-units should all be proportionate to each other. If the lower jaw projection is limited by lack of growth, it can portray a weaker jaw with less of a masculine appearance. By using the correct judgment, a plastic surgeon can provide an enhanced projection with the combination of either an implant or repositioning the bone along with liposuction of the jaw line to create a sculpted jaw which projects strength.

5. Liposuction
If you look in the mirror and the phrase "dad bod" screams out, liposuction may be something to entertain. An important fact to remember is liposuction, with its many variations, is a contouring tool, not a weight loss technique. I strongly encourage anyone who is considering body contouring to first consider diet and exercise. If after some toning in the gym and achieving a normalized weight you are still unhappy with the shape of your body, then liposuction may be a reasonable adjunct to improve the appearance. The abdominal area can be shaped, as well as reducing the flanks, to provide a sleeker frame. It's a safe surgery that is easily recovered from. Normally, patients can return to work in a day or two. Final results take between six weeks and two months to observe the full effect of the reshaping.

6. Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)
If you have excess fat and skin of the breast, which can also affect the size and shape of the nipple-areolar complex, this can project a very feminizing effect of the male chest. In my experience, I have been very happy with the results of a combination VASER liposuction (ultrasound assisted liposuction) with direct excision of any sub-areolar glandular elements with or without areolar reduction to achieve a masculine chest. This can be a very disturbing condition for a man of any age, particularly in the teenage years. We see a bimodal distribution of people seeking treatment; those in their teenage years and men in their late forties and fifties who are seeking help to restore the loss of tone in their chest area.
